wanna grow, up to be, be a debaser

maura @ 7:26 pm

candy heart! Yesterday we joined the podpeople: our new swell (orange!) ipod shuffle arrived in the mail. All day long I’ve been misquoting Sally in my head: “welcome to the twenty-first century.” Given how few people I see in the subway without little white wires snaking out of each ear, I’m sure that we are nearly the last souls in the metropolitan area to succumb to the ipod’s shiny tiny allure. Metaphorically shiny, of course, as the ipod is actually matte.

Today I took the ipod for a test drive to the gym. (Fitting, since the gym was the purchasing impetus: I’d complained over the weekend that no music playing = harder to work out, and Jonathan got a wild hair and ordered that lil’ pod right up.) And it went okay, though that I could still hear the thumping gym dance music over the Pixies. I’m paranoid about hearing loss so maybe I had the volume too low. Actually, I really hate those little earbud headphones, they kind of freak me out with their in-your-earness. Though these are more comfortable than others I’ve tried, and they didn’t even get as sweaty as I thought they would.

Really, the size of the thing is incredible. It’s about 2 by 2 inches, and a quarter-inch thick. It clips onto whatever you want, kind of like an expensive, musical binder clip. About three seconds after taking it out of the box I squeezed the clip to open it and the thing shot right out of my hand (thankfully landing on the table). And I hadn’t even recently applied hand lotion to my winter-chapped mitts! Hope that’s not a common occurance.

Bottom line: two thumbs up, because listening to Doolittle makes the workout time fly by.

Max is pining for a red one! Red = easier to find if, or WHEN, he loses it. Also the pod, not the shuffle, because he swears the shuffle is a choking hazard, impossible to have in a house with two little siblings. We’re wroking on his law school application over spring break…

I hope J’s hair is back to normal. The picture you paint is of him going all Linus.

Sally rocks!

Everyone in our house still has long hair! Gus really will need a cut soon, because it’s getting into his eyes and bugging him, but it is so very cute that I hate to do it. Mine is just getting annoying.

Max cracks me up! I don’t think Gus would know what to do with it. He doesn’t like listening to music much anymore, and he yells at us when we put our music on so usually we don’t. He is the boss of us, so clearly.

Max is still obsessed w/the Beatles!
Him: “Can you put the Beatles on?”
Me: “They JUST played them on the radio! We JUST listened to them yesterday on the way home from…”
Him: “I don’t remember that.”

He still complains and makes obnoxious gagging noises when we play anything for Alexander. He does NOT wish to be reminded that he ever ever ever liked the Wiggles. Then we remind him that we had to go to the actual Wiggles concert when he was little (that whole thing made me want to commit hari-kari) and then he gets really mad.

Sheesh.

That’s hilarious. We don’t have that much Beatles (I have a high-school-related block) but the music teacher at Gus’s preschool played them Beatles all the time, so we should try it with Gus. He still digs Dan Zanes (which is nice because we do too), but he never did the Wiggles. J + I couldn’t take them!

Just don’t show him “Yellow Submarine.” Let me tell you, it spawns a LOT of questions.
