no time for music these days

maura @ 8:30 pm

Not to whine, but the season premiere of Veronica Mars last night was, well, eh. I mean, I get the whole last season was confusing, let’s just start with monster of the week eps thing, but there has to be SOMEthing there for us veterans. And why was there so little Logan? Yay for Mac making the credits, though. I guess we will wait and see how the season pans out.

Ahhh, premiere week! Damn you, television, with your suddenly goodness! My leisure reading, not to mention well restedness, has suffered for it.

And while I’m (not) whining, last night we watched live TV, what a mistake! SO many commercials, practically every 2 seconds. And they are never long enough to get up and do anything, so of course you end up watching them. From now on we are strictly a prerecorded TV household, and we’ll watch only while sitting in our rocking chairs on the screen porch cradling shotguns yelling “get offa my lawn, you kids!”

And in other news, three weeks til Halloween! We have already gotten out the Halloween dishtowels here in Casa Smiller. What, you say you don’t have any Halloween dishtowels? Poor you. Ours are witchy and ghosty and cool, and they make me very happy.

The theme song was so mellow! I thought I was going to fall asleep! Mac is the new Willow. I like Wallace’s Mark Hammilly roommate…sigh!!! Dick should take heart, Beave was on “Cold Case” as a psycho teen in a mall. Also are they going to a college on the grounds of Sunnydale High or did I just imagine that? It’s always bad when they go off to college–Sabrina got boring (Punky Brewster is no replacement for the aunts!), Buffy got so they didn’t really need Giles, and on Happy Days the Fonz donned water skis and, well you know the rest. I will not even mention Orbitty and Scrappy Doo.

Oh I just listened to the “House” theme, I simply cannot imagine words. Well, hum along.

Halloween dishtowels, yeah!!! Ours have been out since last weekend. We just bought them the other week, buck each (if that) at Wal Mart.

I think that all shows use the same set for high school and college, is what it is. I dunno about Wallace’s roommate…his hair helmet kind of freaks me out. And how come they have not even explained to us why Veronica is not at Stanford, did she fail the Kane Scholarship test or something??? So crazy how there are NO KANES ANYWHERE in the show now.

The hair helmet is what makes him so Hammilly. Where was he? I guess he’s not in Homer’s torture class.

That sad mix of the theme song made me sooo depressed again. But hey, that was the Freaks & Geeks kid getting tortured! Some things never change. [And while I’m being a fan geek, Wallace himself was on F&G as a mathlete once.]

I know, I am still saddened by the theme song too. But this week’s was better, even though I still am not grabbed by the mystery o’ the season (which seems weak compared to the last 2). More Logan is good, is what I always say. Homer should have had more screen time.

What is really weird is how VM is suddenly referencing every other show we watch: frak = Battlestar Galactica (Anne are you watching that? You should, it is really great and not really at all about space) and the grow house = Weeds (man that show is so funny).

Why am I not writing my paper due next week? Aiieee!

We live too far out to get cable! Crazy-sounding, I know.

I didn’t mean to say it was good the Freaks & Geeks guy was getting tortured, only that it is good to see him on TV and not, Doogie Howser & Allyson Hannigan notwithstanding, the TV that is “How I Met Your Mother.” Well I just wanted to make a note of that, lest people think I am pro-geek-torture.

OH, and p.s. I really dislike the commercial for the sleepover on CW. You are smart to blip on through that. And J needs to make up a new song for the Gilmore Girls. That (plus it conflicted w/Buffy) is the reason I didn’t watch it from the getgo. That and b/c my mom liked it :)

Jonathan used to watch Gilmore Girls, doncha know! This was back in its pre-conflicting-with-Buffy days. But he hasn’t watched in ages. I could take it or leave it, myself.

How is that How I Met Your Mother show? We are curious, because of Allyson Hannigan, but our TV card is pretty full these days.
